Neck Laser Hair Removal in Plano: Front of Neck vs. Back of Neck

The neck is an area many people do not think about until ingrown hairs, razor bumps or a fuzzy hairline start to bother them. This guide from MD Laser Med Spa explains how laser hair removal in Plano is usually planned for the front and back of the neck, how to prepare, what to expect afterward, and where to find our published prices.

Front of neck vs. back of neck

Our price list treats the front of the neck and the back of the neck as separate areas. The front of the neck is often requested by people who shave daily and want less stubble or irritation under the jawline. The back of the neck is often requested to keep a cleaner hairline or neckline between haircuts. At your consultation, your provider will mark the exact lines with you so the treated area matches the look you want.

How neck laser hair removal works

Laser hair removal uses light energy that is absorbed by the pigment in the hair. At our Plano clinic we use the Candela GentleMax Pro, which offers two wavelengths (755 nm Alexandrite and 1064 nm Nd:YAG). Your technician chooses settings for your skin and hair at your consultation. The goal is long-term hair reduction over a series of sessions, not a single visit.

Why a series of sessions?

Hair grows in cycles, and only part of the hair in an area is in an active growth phase at any one time. That is why neck treatment is planned as a package of sessions spaced weeks apart. Your provider will recommend the spacing that fits your hair and your schedule. Results vary from person to person, and some people choose occasional touch-up sessions later on.

Before your appointment

  • Shave the area as your provider instructs before your visit. Avoid waxing, plucking or threading in the weeks before treatment, because the hair root needs to be present.
  • Avoid sun exposure and self-tanner on the area, and tell your provider about any new medications or skin products.
  • Arrive with clean skin and skip heavy aftershave, lotion or fragrance on the neck that day.

After your appointment

  • Mild redness or warmth can occur and usually settles on its own. Follow the aftercare instructions your provider gives you.
  • Your provider may suggest avoiding fragranced products, tight collars, hot workouts or saunas on the area for a day or two.
  • Treated hair can take a couple of weeks to shed. Shave between sessions rather than waxing or plucking.
